Joining a gym is the easy part. Making yourself actually go and stick with a routine is the challenging part. Here are 5 easy ways to help you stay motivated and live a healthy, #BeautyFull life:
Set goals, as little as they may seem…will help you gain confidence. You should specifically consider setting S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) goals. Don’t set goals that are too broad such as: “I want to improve my overall health”. Instead, set goals such as: “I will go to the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 15 minutes to run on the treadmill.” You know exactly when and where you are going, what you are doing, and for how long you are doing it. This will help you get started, and keep you going because you will feel accomplished.
Use a Buddy System
There are so many positives about having a workout partner. The main reason is accountability. You both are now responsible for sticking to your goals. You can motivate each other on days it’s tough. It makes the first times going to the gym less intimidating. Most importantly, having a friend in the gym can make it more enjoyable.
When it comes to rewarding yourself, think outside of the box. Most people will go to the gym for an hour, get in a great workout, and then “reward” themselves with a tasty treat. This is not the best way to reward your body for a job well done. This method can often turn that into self-punishment as many will begin to believe “eating this cupcake will require an intense workout”. Working out should not be a punishment, but rather a healthy way of life to use your body to its full capabilities. Instead, reward yourself after you have reached a goal with a purse, a day at the spa, even a new workout outfit, or some great Pevonia skincare. This will keep you driven towards a goal without relying on food.
Take advantage of Fitness Technology
Fitness technology is a great way to keep you motivated to head to the gym. Most contain applications with daily reminders on them. You can set alarms and notifications that will tell you when it is time for the gym, or to get up and walk because you have been sitting for too long. You can also track your activity and daily food intake, so you can see exactly what you are doing and how it needs to be improved.
Make it a routine
This goes back to setting goals. Working out and being active should be a part of your daily routine…just like eating. The first step is to determine what time of day is best for you to be active and workout. Some prefer first thing in the morning, while others prefer to go right after work. Once it becomes a routine for you, it is easier to stick to it and you can start implementing new goals to achieve.
When trying to find the motivation to go to the gym or to workout daily: set goals (even if they are little), reward yourself with a tangible item, workout with a friend, use your technology, and set a routine for when your workout. You’ve got this!
