Health+Wellness

Everything old…is new again! Over the last couple of years, bodyweight training, or the act of using your own body weight as resistance (no equipment needed), has become increasingly popular! That’s right! We’re going back to the basics and using classic exercises (like the push up) instead! No matter the weight or fitness level, bodyweight training can be a very effective method of exercise. There are many different exercises available to perform, and modification is easy to start at a beginner level and advance. This will allow for a gradually strengthened and improved fitness routine.

Here are 5 advantages to bodyweight training:

Did you know? Peels date back to the days of Egypt over 5,000 years ago when Egyptians used acids from fruits and milk as facial peels? So…what is a peel? A facial or chemical peel is a treatment in which an acid solution is used to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. If you haven’t heard, Pevonia® Botanica introduced an all NEW in-spa professional treatment last week; the YouthRenew™ Hydra-Glow Peel! This ultra-hydrating new treatment, provides your skin with a smoother texture, minimized wrinkles, and lightened hyperpigmentation. Truly emerging your skin for a healthy, radiant, #BeautyFull glow! I had the pleasure of getting to experience this treatment last week, and wanted to share some important information on peels and my take on this exciting new spa experience.

…I know what you’re thinking.

The first time I heard “peel” I thought…yikes how can this possibly be exciting? I don’t want my skin falling off of my face? Gross. While the process does remove the top layer of the skin, the peel is properly (and gently!) exfoliates your skin to stimulate the formulation of new cells to provide your skin a more even tone and clearer, brighter skin. Your skin is not literally falling off your face, and there is nothing to fear with this process…I promise. So…what’s the big deal? Why Peel?

Earth Day, an annual event held on April 22nd celebrates Planet Earth aiming to spread global public awareness about environmental protection and support. Created in 1970 by US Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day began with 20 million people rallying to protect the planet.  Earth Day Network, an organization founded to recruit and encourage participation of this special day, works to build environmental democracy and globally facilitate activities celebrating Earth. Earth Day Network‘s goal is to reach global climate and environmental literacy by the year 2020 (the 50th anniversary of Earth Day).

In honor of Earth Day, Pevonia encourages our fans to continue this mission, and #LiveBeautyFull by protecting our planet. Here we share just a few simple ways you can join us in our efforts this #EarthDay:

Clean Up the Beach

Protecting our planet means keeping it #BeautyFull. If you’ve ever taken a walk down a public beach covered in waste…you certainly know what I mean here. In a recent trip to a local turtle hospital, I learned about all of the horrible ways sea turtles, birds, and other sea creatures are affected by the trash left on the beach. Not only will cleaning up the beach make it visually attractive, but you’ll be helping out the poor animals that mistake a plastic bag, a bottle cap, or glass for a piece of food.

Plant Something

There are many ways to reduce our carbon footprint, but one simple way to do so is by supporting reforestation. Earth Day Network reports that our planet is losing approximately 56 acres of forest per minute (that’s more than 42 football fields!). In addition to offsetting carbon, our planet benefits from the ways trees improve air and water quality, control flooding, and support wildlife. Here are just a few ways you can help with reforestation:

  • Donate to organizations that support trees
  • Plant or Gift a tree
  • Support tree recovery post natural disasters
  • Share with others facts about the impact trees have on our planet

Stop Using Plastic Bags

This one is super simple. Just change the answer to the “Paper or Plastic?” question in the checkout line.  While you should try to bring recyclable bags, I’m always the culprit of forgetting them. Instead, if I do forget, I ask for paper. Not only do they help our planet…but using paper or cloth bags hold more groceries! According to the Plastic Pollution Coalition, 33% of all plastic is used just once and thrown away. Plastic is not environmentally friendly and instead of decomposing, it breaks down into smaller pieces causing all sorts of problems like: poisoning our food chain, threatening wildlife, harming human health, and spoiling groundwater.

In line at checkout with no options but a plastic bag? When in doubt, just carry it out!

Educate

There are so many ways that you can help save our planet, but the most important: education. Earth Day was created with the principal that we need to spread global literacy about why and how we can help our Earth. Pevonia invites you, our dedicated fans and supporters, to join us in taking a Pevonia Earth Day Pledge.

Learn more about our Earth Day Pledge and print out our Pevonia Earth Day Pledge Selfie Card to share with us on social media using the hashtag #PevoniaEarthDayPledge.

What is Wearable Technology?

Wearable technology market is still a relatively young, yet rapidly-growing market. It includes devices that track activity, calories, and heart rate. Leading the way, Fitbit released their first fitness tracker in 2009, and since then many other companies such as Apple, and Garmin have followed along and expanded its capabilities. Wearable technology is great for anyone, especially since it is really advancing and growing a larger audience who can wear them. Your wearable technology purchase can be as basic as the FitBit Zip (which only tracks activity and is very small and lightweight) or as complex (complete with a second face for your phone) as the Samsung Frontier.
